2014 has been a pretty great year. If I were to do it all over again, I'd take the chance to write more about the different games I have played. So before we move on to the new year, I thought I would take the chance to write a little bit about some of my favourite games this year.
Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Animal crossing is a game I've truly come to cherish despite how little I've played of it. I never got as immersed into it as other people and only really played it once every few days or whenever I had some free time.
And I think that's just fine. Animal Crossing, I feel, is a game meant for you to step out of your regular life and ease into the lazy, day-to-day village life. Even if it means just spending a few hours fishing by the lake and saving up bells to buy some furniture for your little house, as I did. Or even laying on the grass to watch some shooting stars light up the night sky on a warm summer evening. Animal Crossing: New Leaf is a superb game that I can see myself playing for a long time. Just the way I like it.
Wind Waker HD
The first time I loaded up Wind Waker on my Wii U I was mystified by the gorgeous visuals. I continue to be amazed at the amazing graphics each time I play the game. I hadn't played the original game on the Gamecube but I could tell that a lot of improvements have been made to streamline the game. Things like an ever-present map on the gamepad for example. The redone soundtrack is such a good listen. There isn't really much else to say about the game, excellent overall!
Pokemon Alpha Sapphire
I bought this game a little under a month ago but it has already reached the top spot for favourite game for me. Pokemon Alpha Sapphire is a 3DS remake for the Pokemon Sapphire game for the Gameboy. Didn't get the chance to play Sapphire back then so I jumped at the opportunity to play an insanely awesome version of the original games.
First thing I noticed as I played was the awesome soundtrack (of course). The music in the Pokemon games makes more of an impact now however in the 3DS generation. Previously, the sound files would have to be compressed to be able to fit the file on the cartridge so now the sound designers had some leeway to make more elaborate compositions. Really loving the game's over world music.
Another thing about the game that I can't shut up about are the new contests. I believe the last we've seen of contests in Pokemon was way back in Pokemon Platinum which was disappointing because I loved the contests mode. Now Pokemon Contests are back and are way more extravagant than before. Not only that but they've completely re-tuned the mechanics behind it all. Can't wait to play more of this!
With all that out of the way, I'd like to give my thanks to everyone who's been reading and following this blog this past year. Even if life gets the better of me sometimes, I still do very much love writing as well as talking about games on this blog and I hope to continue to do so in the upcoming year. Happy new year everyone!
